Class of 2014

Nicole Dawn Sherman-Luce

My little sister Nicole, we call her Neka, is graduating this week from Galena Interior Learning Academy! This summer before she left for the year I convinced her it would be fun to take her senior pictures. It was a bit of a battle but finally she gave in. I am so glad she let me take her pictures!  We went around to our favorite childhood stomping grounds and had fun reminiscing while doing so.  I am so proud of her. Congratulations Neek. Love you!

NRA shooting range - Jeremy sighting in a friends gun.
In the hashtag trend there is one every Monday known as #ManCrushMonday. Let me introduce you to my man crush everyday. Jeremy is my best friend. We started dating my first semester of my senior year in high school.  The best kind of love is with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time.  I was planing on joining the Navy and setting forth from Nome for a few years to explore the world.  I got as far as passing MEPS and followed up with my recruiter just a few times before I decided that Nome is where my heart is, and forever will be.   In spite of my Navy dreams, Jeremy has been the best plot twist in my life. I miraculously applied and was accepted into the Certified Nurses Aide training and my ambition then became to obtain my Nursing degree.  The best part about that is I am able to study here in Nome, be with Jeremy, and my family.  The best of both worlds!  We have been inseparable since we started dating.  We have spent only a month apart, two weeks last summer for my CNA training, and two weeks this winter when he finished his ambition of becoming a Airframe and Power plant mechanic.  To add to our love, we are finishing our preparations in becoming new parents to a baby girl in the next few weeks. Jeremy and I are so excited and couldn't be any more happy.  I am so excited to see him as a daddy with our baby in his arms for the first time. I know he will be great considering he has spoiled me with endless love since we have been together.

Where my passion for photography started. My cousins and I surprised my grandfather, know as Dotta to all of his grandchildren, in his home turf of Candle, Alaska. He has spent his summers there for quite some time, and I bet he would love to live there the whole year round. Heck, I would! I absolutely loved being in Candle with him and his wife.  I hope to bring my family there one of these days. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from our trip.
I probably took over 2,000, no joke, in one short week.

My Dotta, showing us his secret spot of salmonberries in his hometown of Candle, Alaska.

The house my dotta grew up in with his family.

As the raven flies, Candle is 150 miles Northeast of Nome.

Here I am. Hiding behind my camera where I prefer.

Life as a Wallflower

My name is Rebecca Sherman-Luce, Becca Luce for short.  I have both my parents last names. Sherman being my moms maternal name, and Luce as my dads last name.  I am a wallflower. I prefer not to be center of attention and prefer small groups over large ones. If you find me in a large group, I am most likely going to be with my family.  My family is made up of 3 big brothers, all being the oldest of the bunch, two older sisters, and two younger sisters. Yes, you counted right. There are 8 of us. My parents were busy, and still are with six, going on seven grandchildren (eight if you count my nephew Jeter, a Labrador retriever).   My baby will be number seven. Right now I am NINE months pregnant. One more month till I can say I have made my own human being! I should say, we created, considering her dad is going to be spoiling her rotten (and already has). This is the main reason for this blog. I hope to capture life in the stills and reintroduce my long lost passion of writing.
